Thailand greatly needs your prayers! I realize every missionary report says this, but I am pleading with you…Please PRAY! Over 99.3% of the Thai population are without Christ and awaiting His judgment. The other 0.7% are so-called “christians” and go to “churches” that are very unhealthy. An even greater percentage are not and have never been a member of a church whatsoever. It is quite “normal” to see people float around from one church to another never fully committing themselves to church membership. It burdens me greatly that there are several genuine believers who are not being fed the word or are just being led into false doctrine by the pastors. One of the greatest issues in Thai churches is the lack of faithful leadership. Most churches are being led by unqualified, untrained, and/or uncalled Men and Women. Oftentimes, these pastors have been pressured into the ministry and pastorate because no one else will do it, or even worse… because they desire a “position” of respect and authority. Only our Lord can help these serious issues, so we ask you to please bring these things before Him who is able!
Grace Baptist Church - Doi Saket
Though we have had several out due to a bout of Covid this past month, attendance has remained strong and we are thankful to report we still have visitors nearly every week…Praise the Lord! This week we began our second round of classes for new members and have ten people attending who are interested in joining the church.
Please be in prayer for those who are seeking to join Grace Baptist Church here in Doi Saket. Also, please be in prayer for the kids who are attending the Sunday School Program. We are greatly encouraged by the continued attendance of several Thai kids in our neighborhood. Each week they seem eager to learn! They are memorizing scripture, learning the books of the Bible, and working on reading the Bible together out loud.
Grace Theological Seminary
This week please pray for us as we begin our third month of classes with Preacher’s Training. This month we are coving a lot of material. We are looking at Abraham, Isaac, Jacob as well as Israel and God’s deliverance from Egyptian slavery. We will finish the class time this month with teaching about the Law given to Moses as well as the Tabernacle and Priesthood. As you can see, Levi and I greatly need your prayers in order to teach all of these subjects with clarity, as we direct each lesson to it’s ultimate fulfillment in the person and work of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Grace Bannasan - Printing Ministry
We are in the process of completing a “Quick Reference Guide to the Bible” which provides a general overview of each book of the Bible as well as outlines, maps, historical and literary context, etc for each book of the Bible. This will be a much needed and very useful tool for pastors and students as they seek to read through, study and teach the Word of God. This project has been a year in the making as we are seeking to make sure it is well translated, edited and formatted in order that it might be well understood and used for many years to come.
This past month we also printed a book on Spiritual Warfare, which as you can imagine is a major issue here in Thailand. The spiritual battle here is real and most Thai believers grew up fearing and trying to appease spirits before their conversion. I believe that this book will be of great use to them as they still struggle with this at times.
Also, be in prayer for an upcoming book project that addresses the rampant issue here in Thailand of speaking in tongues, or as the Thai translation puts it “weird languages”. We hope to be ready to print this book sometime in September so that it can be distributed during an upcoming training. The spiritual battle here is real and most Thai believers grew up fearing and trying to appease spirits before their conversion. I believe that this book will be of great use to them as they still struggle with this at times.
Lastly, we want to thank those who continue to give towards the distribution of free Bibles here in Thailand. We continue to purchase 3-4 boxes of Bibles each month that we are blessed to be able to hand out to those who otherwise could not afford to purchase one. This particular project is very dear to all of us here as we constantly run into people who say they don’t have a Bible because they are too expensive. Those who are given Bibles are truly grateful when they receive them…thank you! This past month we were privileged to be able to mail out over 2,500 resources to pastors, individuals and churches all over Thailand. Pray for those who receive these books and Bibles! May the Lord be glorified!
Family
Be in prayer for all of our kids as they start back to school in a couple of weeks. Brittany is busy preparing lessons and rounding up needed books and curriculum for the upcoming year. Cohen will be in 11th grade this year, it is hard to imagine that we only have two years before he goes off to University (Lord willing!). Ben will be entering 3rd grade, Caleb starts 4th grade and Lyla will be a Sophomore this year! Long will be attending a local university to work towards a degree in Linguistics and then hopes to continue his studies in seminary so he can help teach at the Bible school here. Please be in prayer for each of them as they prepare for the upcoming school year ahead. Also, please pray for Brittany as she refocuses her attention on the kids. She helps me SO much with all the different ministries we have going on but the children are her priority and we both recognize that she needs to seek to always put them first. In a place where it feels like there is constant work to be done and people to help it can be easy to get pulled away from the things God has right in front of you.
For HIS Glory,
Matthew Villandry
